A couple of weeks ago Pharris posted Floyd vs. Manny, he asked who would win? Not for someone just to pick their favorite fighter, but really who would win? My computer has be out of commission, but i'm back and its time for me to weigh in, even if it is irrelevant at the moment. Everytime I turn around they are fighting and not fighting, i wish they would just be like Nike and just do it already. In any case, paying homage to the espn simulated superbowls, here is my if they fight....
Floyd vs Manny, Manny vs. Floyd, either way you flip it those two names + a ring+ BIG MONEY+millions of screaming fans from all over the civilized world should and could most definitely = a fight for the ages. The idea of these two sluggers duking it out gives me chills. The mere thought makes me think of the days when your favorite fighter, who in your eyes and in the eyes of most was about to meet his greatest challenge ever. you know, that gut wrenching butterfly feeling you get when the opening bell sounds, the nervousness you feel when your fighter gets nailed with a good one or goes down. How about that that feeling of relief when your guy makes it through another nail bitting round of all out brawling, beautifully strung together combos, and how did he do that defensive slips and counter punches. you remember when the fights were so good that you could barely sit still and at the end of the fight waiting for Michael Buffer or some other dude come to mic and deal the final blow in your guys favor or your guy's opponent.
Well, If you don't remember, I do, and this fight has all that magic. I can just imagine the two of these pound for pound greats going toe to toe, swinging and dodging, hitting and being hit for twelve hard fought rounds. Under the premise or the guise of being the best of the best. The big question is who would win. The truth is, its hard to say, really really hard.
I like them both to be frankly honest, but I have no clue who has the edge. One would think that Floyd would. I mean Floyd has what a lot of the greats had: speed, strategy, ring awareness, an almost impenatratable defense, and above all else, the one thing that sets the greats apart from most everyone else, the ability to adjust at the drop of a dime. Most fighters get caught up in the hype, 'he a slugger let me prove I'm one too, or this guy is said to be a good boxer , let me prove i can do it too to close the mouths of my critcs." How bout this one that becomes so evident while the match is happening lol, Oh no my game plan that we drew up is not working he knows exactly what i'm about to do before i do, help! what do i do now. lol!!! Floyd, has proven time and time again that no matter how hard you train, how well prepared you think you might be, there are always monkey wrenches or variables one must always account for, Simply put, THERE IS NO STRATEGY!!!!
The Late martial arts king Bruce Lee, Said it best "when fighting one must be like water, because water becomes whatever it is in, If you put it in a cup it becomes the cup" Floyd becomes what ever is required to get the job done. While he perceives to, he rarely if ever succumbs to the battle of ego over mind.
Manny on the other hand, from what i've seen is a reall go getter. He doesn't alter his game plane for no one, he force you to change yours. And, as history has proven for him, it has it's advantages. He has won most of his fights in that manner, but it has also cost him. His speed like Mayweather is uncanny and his onslaught relentless, punishing to say the least, pressuring fighters into to revealing there weaknesses or making mistakes that they normally don't make. Until the final bell tolls there is no forgiveness with Manny. It is almost like he pictures every opponent as some abusive relative, (ala waterboy if you will) These Qualities along with a great corner team, not say Floyd's corner isn't good, Makes him a hard man to stand in front of.
So, to try and answer that ulitmate question, who would win? I really still have no answer, there are so many tiny variables you cannot account for. In the end I suppose the questions would have to be: will Manny control the fight and pressure Floyd into mistakes, a brawl or both? In which Manny definitely in my opinion has the advantage. Or will Floyd be like water, and become what ever is necessary to out smart arguably one of the toughest sob's to enter the ring? Hopefully, time will tell....
Thats for listening to my opinions. peace
